Thermostat 

A common issue with furnaces not turning is that the thermostat has malfunctioned. If you have a smart themorstat it may be easy to diagnos as it will likely show an error message. However, some unit will stop working all together and not send the signal the furnance to start. Check if the wires are connected and secured, if you have a battery operated themostat consider replacing the battery. Some models come with an option called Geofencing, be aware of this feature as it can change the setting of the temperature based on your location. 


Flame Sensor

Dirty flame sensor can make the furnance stop working all together, I know , it happened to me in the middle of alberta february. Check the make and model of your furnance on what is the best way to clean it without breaking the sensor. 


Furnace Filter Maintenance

Making sure your filter is changed routinely is the way to lengthen the lifespan and efficiency of your heating and cooling system.A common contributor to equipment malfunctions are dirty air filters, which can impair machine performance. Here are some things a dirty filter can cause ::

  1. When airflow is limited, your fan's motor will work harder and overheat your devices and system will eventually fail.
  2. Overworking your fan motor can make your unit wear out and lead to substantial increases in your utility expenses.
  3. A reduction in the air quality inside your home can worsen certain health conditions, including allergies.
  4. Failing to clear out your ductwork of accrued debris, such as dirt, dust, and mold, can lead to malfunctions in your equipment or have you spend a significant amount of money to repair or replace it.

Unless otherwise instructed by the owner of the HVAC system, air filters ought to be replaced every one to three months. Homes with smokers or pets will change their filters more frequently than households without these habits.
